The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
