The artist has given the full amount of his £25,000 honor prize money to the MVT, which works to protect the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

He was awarded the prize on mid-October as his new release the album was chosen as the best record of the past year.

Fender has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages played in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped venues that were facing possible closure due to challenges arising from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained funding support in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from performances in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

He is not the first artist to contribute his award winnings to worthy causes.

In Pulp won the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, frontman the singer stated that the band would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist divided her bounty among multiple organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that developed their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year they donated their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning affected another person's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had saved two small stages in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership program, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
